MAP Packaging
With MAP packaging the natural atmosphere in the packaging is replaced by a modified atmosphere specifically tailored to the packaged goods. For packagings with a protective atmosphere (MAP packagings), the atmosphere in the packaging is replaced by a gas mixture which is specifically tailored to the product so that the shape, colour and freshness of the product are maintained. The protective atmosphere normally consists of carbon dioxide, nitrogen and oxygen. The following products are typically packed with a protective atmosphere: fresh food, products containing protein, bread, pasta and baked goods.
The advantages of MAP packaging include increasing the shelf life and assuring the quality of the packaged goods as well as grip and transport protection.
